Hypnobirthing at Baby Bird Café CIC, Oswestry

Baby Bird Café is pleased to announce the start of focused hypnobirthing classes in the New Year with Master Practitioner, Louise Jenkins. To introduce the course, Louise very kindly wrote this blog post, describing the work she does and the benefits of hypnobirthing for parents-to-Be. Settle down, and have a read……

‘Childbirth should be the most wonderful experience but often it can be impacted by well meant, but ill informed advice, dramatic birth stories from family and friends and anxiety about pain and the journey into the unknown.

Hypnosis in Childbirth can help parents to overcome those fear and move towards a birth that is positive right from the start.

Research from the Cochrane Review of 2006 has shown that women who have prepared with hypnosis are likely to have shorter labour with a reduced likelihood of the need for forceps, ventouse or Caesarean section. Research has also shown that being positive and calm with a working knowledge of pain control techniques reduces the need for chemical painkillers.

Bump.Birth.Baby hypnobirthing offers a friendly, interesting and effective approach to labour and delivery. It is a short course based in Oswestry at Baby Bird Cafe, over four sessions beginning early or later in pregnancy. I purposely limit each course to a maximum of 4 couples to ensure that the course can be personalized to specific needs. The course includes:

  • Self hypnosis: how to go into a state of calm relaxation
  • Personal visualisations to aid labour and delivery
  • Relaxation and a range of pain control techniques
  • How to remain positive, in control and in communication

The skills taught in Bump.Birth.Baby hypnobirthing are as applicable to first-time mothers as to second and subsequent births.

Many mothers report that their babies are calmer and feed and sleep better due to their more gentle passage into the world. Babies who are born to mothers who use hypnosis typically score highly on the Apgar score. The reduced use of pain medication means fewer undesirable side effects for mother and baby, whilst self-hypnosis and relaxation after the birth aid breast feeding and restful nights.

Here’s one mother’s experience having worked with me:

“It really was a magical experience, which I can look back on with happiness and pride. It was exactly the feeling I wanted when I came to our first session, to not be terrified, but excited and open to the possibility that labour could be an amazing experience. Thank you for preparing me for that so my body was able to do what was needed to make this happen! I genuinely believe the things we did were central to an amazing birth experience.”’
